The Opportunity
Our Client is one of the UK’s leading pioneers in the race to develop and manufacture the latest Battery technology for industry, with an initial primary focus on supporting our ever-growing Automotive manufacturing sector (but not exclusively!), ensuring that there will be a brighter and greener future for us all.
We are now actively seeking an experienced NEBOSH certified Head of Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) on a contract basis for a likely minimum duration of 4 months, although there is a chance that this might see extension beyond this term or possibly be even made into a permanent role.
On offer to the successful candidate is a highly competitive day rate which would see you working on a contract basis outside of IR35 regulations.
As their Head of Health, Safety & Environment, you will ensure that the company maintains and complies with relevant health, safety and environmental regulations, that are relevant to its day-to-day operations. This will include writing of procedures and processes, developing and delivering training, offering advice and guidance, reviewing, and reporting on accidents and near misses and supporting the business in all aspects of the above to ensure compliance going forward.
Your duties and responsibilities will be:
The main objective is to develop and implement a documented management system for the company. Engaging with the incumbent Quality team you will work towards a fully integrated system to meet the requirements of the respective ISO standards and achieve certification. You will be involved in the generation of policies, procedures and associated written documents to form the HS&E manual. Additional objectives in line with the demands of the HS&E team.
- Day to day liaising with all areas of the business.
- Offering advice and guidance to the business on health, safety and environment.
- Escalation of concerns to relevant internal persons.
- Completing risk assessments for all areas of the business.
- Dealing with external bodies with regards to health, safety and environment.
- Auditing and monitoring site safety.
- Monitor HSE performance and generate reports for communication across company.
- Oversee waste management process and controls.
You will have the following qualifications & experience:
You should be ideally educated to Degree level (Bachelor’s or Master’s) in a relevant field, although plenty of relevant Health, Safety and Environmental experience will be considered.
You need to be NEBOSH certified.
You will be an experienced Health, Safety & Environment Manager (HSE) who has ideally worked in a manufacturing environment, better still a Chemical or High-Voltage one, although this is not essential.
You will be experienced in delivering health, safety and environmental training.
You will need to be experienced in writing and completing reports and documentation.
Experience of internal auditing to ISO standards is required: ISO 14001 Environmental Management System / ISO 45001 Occupational Safety and Health Management System.
You should be experienced in writing HS&E specific Policies / Procedures as well as developing and delivering training material for a manufacturing environment or similar.
Should be experienced in developing documented management systems.
You will need a knowledge of HS&E legislation: Gauge level of specific e.g. Permits to Work, CoSHH, REACH, Control of Noise at Work, Workplace Equipment.
It’s great if you also have the following:
Previous experience of working in Chemical or High Voltage environments is preferred, but is not essential.
